Theories about missing items of clothing

Reading the underwear threads has reminded me about something that happened many years ago. A pair of my shoes (just black flats, nothing fancy, like ballet pumps) that I wore most days went missing and were nowhere to be found on the Monday morning when I went to put them on for work. I then happened to find them a few weeks later in a place I had emptied when I had previously been looking for them.
Since that time I've found out that DH had had a secret female friendship spanning that period.
I've always wondered if there had been some sort of connection but I've never thought of a theory as to how a woman would put on the wrong shoes (!) - until now ... something has sprung to mind. Any theories?

The OW playing games in the hope DH would get found out by you and prompt a split?

That would be hard for her to explain to DH - 'I put on the wrong shoes' - it would show her to be manipulative, so I discounted that. But it's possible as other things did show up over the years which could have actually been 'left' for me. I just thought of a theory which I cannot believe I never thought of before - it's so straightforward.

Maybe he hid them and panicked thinking they were hers if she had similar ones?

I thought that, but then I wondered what she had worn home! Although, she could have had a gym bag with her I suppose.

Erm I can’t think of anything other than the theory about them being taken on purpose as a way to alert you to the relationship:

Can’t wait to hear your theory!!

She came round in heals which rubbed? Borrowed the shoes and returned them.

My theory - he loaned them to her (because hers were wet, or he'd jizzed on them or her heel broke or whatever), being dim and not really thinking about how often you wore them. And she gave them back later.

AurorasGingerbreadHouse · 09/12/2020 17:06

He leant them to her for when they went outside for a post coital cigarette as she had no slippers. They got a bit muddy so he gave them a clean but forgot to return them.

He bunked off work to day drink and spilt vodka on them.

He was using them to swat a fly while WFH one day and forgot to put them back.

You came hone early one day and she had to climb down the drain pipe to avoid you discovering them in bed. Because she left in a hurry and not dressed, he threw her clothes to her out the window including the shoes. Unfortunately he gave her the wrong pair, so hid hers and later they met to swap them back.

AurorasGingerbreadHouse · 09/12/2020 17:10

He accidentally donated them to the local charity shop and had to pay three times their value the next time they opened after getting into a bidding war with a particularly enthusiastic hoarder who wanted them for her collection.

Grin This is the one! Inspired by a story my boss told me years ago when his affair partner's husband came home unexpectedly and he had to escape out of the bedroom window in his underpants. Apparently the woman bundled his clothes to him as he escaped. I don't think she climbed down the drainpipe though! DH probably passed what he thought were her shoes to her in a hurried 'escape'. Not sure why it has taken me this long to think that up TBH when @AurorasGingerbreadHouse did it in minutes. Must be thick.
