Hi there,
so I will try to explain it as quick as possible.
Back in January I have been to a job interview, I have been offered the position 2 days after which I was so excited about.
They kept me waiting for over 3 weeks to sign the contracts and etc, they have also gave me 1 week to complete an online training.
I have completed the training in 3 days, it took me aroud 30 hours and they said they will pay me for the training as they always do.
I was offered around 40 hours a week HOWEVER, on my contract it said 0 hour..
I was waiting for another week too meet the hr and get my uniform sorted, have a tour around the area and meet other workers.
I have completed all the stages and was waiting to start working.
I have finally received my rota on last week of February, I was very happy , at this point I have DECLINED all other job offers that I have been offered.
2 days after receiving my rota, one of managers sent me an email explaining that they had a meeting due to corona virus and that I will not get any hours for the time being, he advised me that I will definitelly be able to start soon and that I just need to be patient because nobody knows whats happening.. Fair enough I thought.
I undersoon the situation but I knew that the virus will not magically go away in 1 week time !
however ... I was waiting
2 weeks after I decided to send an email to the manager asking whats happening and should I be prepared to start, he replied saying that he will not be offering me any hours and he understands if I want to look for job elsewhere. At this point I was very dissapointed because I have wasted so much time since January to now find out that I basically dont have a job !
I called the hr team and been advised that I will be paid for the online training (30) hours.
Today I have received my payslip, £0 .
I am very angry because firstly, I was really looking forward to this money, especially now in this situation, my husbands working hours have been reduced.
Secondary, I am angry because they have kept me waiting, If I started working back in February then I now would be eligible for something .
I have lost the job and now they didnt even pay me for those training hours !
living me with nothing because I wasnt earning anything since January because of them.
I know that this situation is very hard for everybody but I dont know if I should even ask for the money from the training ?
I wasted 3 months, no wages, 3 days done for training purposes..

The payslip being printed may be unrelated to them not having paid you yet.

It's really unlikely HR would agree to pay you and then don't.

@LaurieFairyCake how come ? by the looks of things they have sent out the payslips dated this friday coming, so thats what I am getting, 0 ! ha :(
I cant imagine them paying me outside of hr, any money would beed to be on that payslip.

Do you have anything in writing where they agreed to pay you for the hours you spent training? If so, send that to their HR department and make it clear that there was a commitment there. If it’s a large organisation, it’s likely to be a payment run issue, they’ll have set dates for making payments.

With regard to the job itself, until you have a signed contract with a schedule of terms and your confirmed hours, you essentially don’t have a job. It’s shitty, but it’s always wise to hold off declining other offers until you have a contract with your preferred choice,

@comtessedespair . I have just checked the contract, no mention about the training pay,
It is a masive company as well..
and yes, this job was still my preffered choice thats why I have signed the contracts and rejected other offers.
I feel so stupid ....
I have heard that most companies start of with 0 hour contract but I somehow believed them as they assured me that 40 hours will be provided as they are in need, of course , it was before all this corona thing, I think they do it to keep them safe..
do you think they just tell you that they will pay for the training , dont put it on contract and then dont pay? that would be very harsh and nasty .
I now have taken the job as a cleaner because me and my husband need to keep the family going, (we have a baby) and cleaning position was the only possible job for this time, I do get rude comments from my family saying that I am a cleaner yet I dont feel ashamed in any way, a job is a job

I hope it’s not B&M, they are known to have folk do training and never pay them, the one local to me had a guy do a weeks trial and then refused to pay him 😡

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/04/2020 00:54

Regarding the training - it doesn’t have to be in a formal contract, do you have an email where they state they will pay you x amount per hour for x training hours?

Interestedwoman · 08/04/2020 01:05

I would ring them again. If they said you'd be paid then maybe the payslip is in error, or something else is going to be sent on. Worth a go.
