How to tell kids it's over

Relationship is over and I'll need to tell my 5 year old over the next couple of days.

Well, realistically I'll need to tell my STB ex I'm actually moving out but I'm far less invested in that.

Just to clarify it's DS's dad I'm breaking up with and it's anyone's guess how he'll react, probably badly.

Sorry if I'm not making much sense, my head is all over the place right now.

I wouldn’t say anything for now. Have you got somewhere to go? I would see your stbex’s response first, how much contact will ds have with him? I wouldn’t make it into a big deal for a 5 year old, get yourself all sorted first, maybe some time with a relative in a familiar surrounding.
I had left my exh for 3 weeks before my children (6&4) knew when I told them. Even then I don’t think they would of known any diff as we were staying at my mums and where they often stayed anyway

I've just received the confirmation from the estate agent today, hopefully I can sign the papers tomorrow, ecstatic as the place is perfect.

Unfortunately, as I'm not British there's nowhere I can take DS to bridge this period so to speak so I'll be moving ASAP.

DS's dad works shifts and I'm willing to work around them so he can have time with DS, but I'll try and get an agreement in place in regards to weekends and holidays.

Quite frankly, he'll want DS a lot at first and then he'll probably lose interest to a large extent, hope he proves me wrong, but we'll see.
