Does he want a baby?

My bf and I got together nearly 2 years ago( hes 46 and I'm 35 ) and we talked about having kids at the beginning of the relationship. He said he doesn't mind but that they're expensive and you end up with no money so I left it at that. He doesn't have any kids and so that's what I thought the reason was. He is absolutely brilliant with my son and daughter from a previous relationship who are 10 and 5. But we never discussed having any of our own. But when I mentioned going to the doctors to get more birth control pills he said he doesn't mind if anything happens. I'm a bit confused because
he won't give me a straight answer. I'm not bothered if we do or don't.

Ask him the straightforward question. It’s not really a see what happens kind of commitment. Does he want children and everything they entail, does he want a newborn, does he accept nursery fees, does he want to run round with a toddler at 50 etc.
Tbh if he got to 46 and is still quite vague about it I’d say the answer is no.
