Really painful sex

Hi, apologies in advance I wasn't sure whether to put this in relationships or the sex advice board!
Last night DH and I had sex and it was the most painful sex of my life, a deep, sharp stabbing pain. DH said he thought he could feel 'the end' as he put it so I'm assuming he meant my cervix. I have felt this at certain times in the month ( where I'm guessing cervix is naturally lower ) but only as a mild sensation and never pain. I had to get him to stop as it hurt so much and what followed was extreme to say the least. The pain was like heavy contractions or the worst period pain of my life, I honestly thought I should be bleeding heavily, ( there has been no bleeding ) I was nearly sick and felt like I was going to pass out it was that bad and reminded me of period pain in my teens as this often happened. Poor DH was staring at me with abject horror and mortified that I was in so much pain. I do suffer with very painful periods, javelin arse , constipation and noticeable discomfort during ovulation and IBS type symptoms too, you name it I've had it although manageable these days with buckloads of codeine!
I very recently started taking agnus castus in a last ditch attempt at dealing with PMT/PMDD and wondered whether this has something to do with it?!
Has this ever happened to anyone else, it feels OTT to say the least!?

Tranexamic acid somehow stopped almost all the pain for me - which had been "screaming" extreme. Worked over a few cycles. Hope this helps, the pain's shocking, I know. 💐

What's javelin arse?

Nomorewine77 · 19/02/2020 07:41

Sharp, stabbing, take your breath away / make you gasp out loud rectal pain, just before or during period. Grim

"Javelin arse" is an unofficial description of severe rectal pain and many endometriosis sufferers use that particular descriptor.

What you are writing about here could ALL be attributed to endometriosis. Has anyone ever mentioned that word to you?.

Deep pain during sex is also highly suggestive of endometriosis being present as is ongoing painful periods, mid cycle pain (that is also suggestive of endometriosis as well) and all the other symptoms you write of. You should not have to put up with this nor have to take loads of codeine either in order to manage.

This has nothing to do with the taking of agnus castus. Its more useful for trying to treat problems like polycystic ovaries but self prescribing AC can make any underlying hormonal problem like this worse. I would lay off the AC as of now and seek proper medical help. In the meantime I would keep a daily pain and symptom diary noting everything including pain on a scale of 1-10. It will give the gynae clues.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost and you also need to see a gynaecologist as a matter of priority. Has your GP referred you to such a person, I would insist to the GP that you are referred urgently. Do not put up with this and seek proper answers from a specialist.

This is the website of endometriosis UK

endometriosis-uk.org/

It seems also that this all started in your teenage years; I now have a diagnosis of endometriosis and my problems with this all started at that time too. Do not let anyone tell you its IBS; infact some women who go on to actually receive a diagnosis of endometriosis were mistakenly told that had IBS. Endometriosis is sadly not all that uncommon; infact its the second most common gynae problem seen in women after fibroids.

Do not be fobbed off here and seek proper answers as to why this is happening to you.

I get that pain! I thought it was just me!

Interesting that it's linked to endometriosis, I've suspected that I have it, but haven't been able to get a diagnosis.

OP, definitely see your doctor, any changes, pain or bleeding should be checked out.

No its not just you, not by a long chalk. You will need to be persistent in order to get answers and I urge you to seek those particularly if you think you have endometriosis.

Endometriosis if it is present is usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy. Internal scans and blood tests do not detect endo if it is there (and I have had more of these than I care to mention. Not one such test detected the endometriosis present in my uterine cavity).

I've had this before OP, I almost passed out. I thought I was going to throw up with the pain and was drenched in sweat. Not the best start to my romantic night away.

Nomorewine77 · 19/02/2020 08:16

Hi @AttilaTheMeerkat, thank you. I have been to the GP countless times over the last 25 years or more with regards to period pain and endometriosis has never been mentioned. I was put on the pill at 16 to help control this and it did up to a point ( still needed heavy duty painkillers, but not as bad ) It has only been in the last year or so ( aside from ttc and post childbirth )I haven't been on the pill due to migraines and period pain has returned with a vengeance. I think when you've been fobbed off consistently by the GP you kind of give up and learn to just put up with it, which I have.
The Agnus Castus really was a last resort for PMT/ PMDD, I feel I may need AD's which I'm terrified of taking due to the widely reported side effects.
I already take a considerable amount of medication for RA so to take yet more medication isn't particularly appealing.
I think I need to get my big girl pants on and stop allowing myself to be fobbed off by GP especially after last night as that was almost unbelievable!

Hi @userxx sorry you've experienced this, it was awful I too was drenched! Do you know why it happened? And did it happen again? Right now I feel as though I may never want sex again!

Sorry you've experience this @Nomorewine77

I also have endo and this sounds very familiar. It did take a lot of talking to doctors and private medical insurance to get my diagnosis.

userxx · 19/02/2020 12:01

@Nomorewine77 I think it was my cervix that was errr... touched. Dont worry its not happened again, if it had I would be celibate!! I've never experienced anything like it. Even the momory makes me feel sick.
