Date messaged to cancel- gutted

OLD is crap. This is the third time it's happened and I just feel it's so rude- it takes a lot for me to get organised to get a night out. I'd bought a new dress as well.

I'm not particularly gutted about him, more the opportunity IYKWIM.

Sorry op! This has happened to me numerous times. It’s very frustrating and disappointing. I think I eventually learned never to assume a date will happen until it does. What were the reasons for cancelling?
Most of the ones who cancelled on me made an excuse which I suspect was a lie.

Peanutbuttermouth · 18/01/2020 16:25

Call a friend and go out anyway?

CassidyStone · 18/01/2020 16:32

Put your dress on, and call a few friends, go out anyway. OLD is full of flaky people who cancel at the last minute. He was probably older/fatter/shorter/poorer than he claimed anyway.

My sister's last online date told her he lived in a 2 bed waterside apartment in Leeds. He actually still lived with his parents in a 2 bed terraced house in Wakefield. Nothing wrong with that, but why lie? He also claimed to run his own landscape gardening business, but really worked for the council cutting grass. Again, nothing wrong with that, but lying about things isn't attractive. He was the same man in his photos though, so that was a bonus. She didn't arrange a second date Grin

AmelieTaylor · 18/01/2020 16:35

That’s disappointing!

What was his reason/excuse?

Definitely find a friend to go out with instead! Plus, You never know who you might meet while you’re out

TheYearOfTheDog · 18/01/2020 16:39

At least he let you know. A few times I just had to figure out a date was cancelled.

HockeyStickAirGuitar · 18/01/2020 16:42

He said he's not feeling too well. For all I know he might be genuine but I'm losing patience tbh.

I wouldn't ask my friends to come out spontaneously. It's hard enough to organise things in advance- they're all parents/carers etc.

If someone I've yet to meet cancels once I give him the benefit of the doubt. If it's twice absolutely no chance goodbye. Three times? He's either married, keeping you on standby or flakier than a 99p. Come on OP, give yourself a shake and fuck him off.

HockeyStickAirGuitar · 18/01/2020 16:48

No, it's been three separate men on the trot!

Don't worry- not giving anyone that chance Grin Too old and too cynical!

Always have a back up plan with your friends?

anotherdisaster · 18/01/2020 18:49

I think a good majority of guys who cancel actually chicken out. My experience of men who cancel tend to be the ones who are recently out of relationships so not ready to date. They go online just to ‘have a look’ and when it looks like they may have to meet someone, they panic. So many time wasters.
I wouldn’t rearrange unless he initiates.

Jane1978xx · 18/01/2020 21:58

Was it a first date ? Is always just meet for a coffee or a quick tea Time drink 1st date in case I got let down

Lovethesun100 · 18/01/2020 22:01

A date will come Smile

The trouble is people can be cruel now everything is online. I'm exactly the same in that I rarely have a night free and I'd be fuming if things got cancelled. Join the dating thread here and have a moan.
