Feel a bit insulted, probably blowing out of proportion

just wanted some thoughts on this before I go in a major strop.

Basically I have been writting for the past month or so, I've got heavily engrossed into it and finally started the story I have always wanted to write. Its completely fictional but something that has been in my head for years.

I've just finished the first chapter and plucked up the courage to ask DP to be my first critic...thinking he'd jump at the chance to read it.

He just said "nah I'll read it when you've finished it". The whole thing he means...I'm planning on writing a "book lengh" thing here and to me it just sounds like he isnt interested and I've really put my heart into this.

Am i being unfair?

Yeh a bit. I'd imagine that he knows how important this is to you and he may well be worried about the implications of criticising it. I mean not reading it is better than lying that he likes it. Rock and a hard place I think.

No, I don't think you are, it's not a terribly enthusiastic response. Oh Sh1t actually you've reminded me I haven't read the latest chapter of my friend's novel. Yikes!

Bubble99 · 22/08/2007 23:22

Depends. If he's not reading it because of the reasons Carmenere has (very sensibly, I may add ) given. Then yes, you are being a bit over sensitive.

If it's just because he can't be arsed, then no, he's being an unsupportive git.

Does he read a lot of books? Just wondered if perhaps he doesn't feel qualified to comment?

(though even son, I'd be pretty pee'd off too with that comment.)
