Domestic Abuse Advocacy

Hi All,

I tried to post this earlier but it is not showing up so apologies if I end up sending multiple threads on this.

I’m looking for an independent/private domestic abuse advocate ( if such a person exists) my local Victim support have not been particularly helpful and the police are running rings around me and being very condescending and patronising to the point they are almost justifying my ex partners actions and as a result I am reluctant to contact them again until I have some support.

The person doesn’t need to be legally qualified but know enough to help me liaise with the police.

Thanks

Have you looked to see if there’s a branch of Woman’s Aid local to you?

hoxtonbabe · 03/08/2019 17:09

Hi, They referred me to an organisation but the one in my area only signpost to other organisations they don’t do advocacy work and the places they did signpost me to do not deal with liaising with police etc.

Harbour are a charity based in the NE, and work with The Police and other Agency's. Are you in trouble @hoxtonbabe ? Do you need urgent help?

hoxtonbabe · 03/08/2019 17:24

Hi,

No not in immediate trouble, thank you for asking. The police officer is waiting on me to get back to him but after the conversation we had yesterday I would rather put up with my ex and his BS than deal with that officer.

Have you spoken with your local woman’s aid? They will be able to give you a support worker to help with things like the police and things, hope you find the help you need

hoxtonbabe · 03/08/2019 18:57

I’ve called women’s aid several times over the last few months and they have never mentioned the local search on their site. Until Bacardi mentioned it I’ve never noticed it ( probably because I’ve never scrolled that far down)

Most of the options are either for specific groups or don’t do what I’m after but there is one that Seems to fit the bill so will call on Monday which oddly enough is literally around the corner of my house!

Thank you
