Going NC and family events?

I'm NC with a relative who verbally abused me with homophobic and body shaming comments (absolutely vile things).

We have children so it going to be difficult at family events, especially the first time we see each other after what happened.

How do you deal with this?

Avoid the events? I feel that's unfair on my kids but I'm still really angry at her for the horrible things she said.

You've done nothing wrong here so neither you nor your DC should suffer because of it. Do others in your family know what they've said? I'd be expecting a show of support at family events & whatever else I did I'd be holding my head up high Flowers
