Originally posted in aibu but think it's probably better suited to relationships. Long time user but name change due to this potentially being outing.

Really need some advice on how to handle current family situation. I have recently found out that my sister and her husband have started making porn videos and webcamming in order to make money. The content of their videos is EXPLICIT (as detailed by people who have watched). They have 3 children, 2 of which are approaching secondary school age.

I am absolutely horrified. I feel so bad for their children and am furious that they are putting them in a situation which could lead to bullying and ridicule.

As fair as I am aware they are not hard up for money, they would just like to live a more glamourous lifestyle and are using this to fund it.

I just don't know how to handle it, of course it's none of my business how they lead their life, however as a mother of daughters I feel as though I cannot condone this as I do not want to send the wrong message to my own children in the future.

Am I wrong to want to cut her off? I'm so conflicted about this and it's not a situation I ever thought I would find myself in. Any advice appreciated.

This is a view I’ve often seen shared on MN and one I don’t understand.

The core seems to be you don’t believe women are there from free will. The porn business is exploitative. It seems to be a labour rights issue at its core. So extending that do you not eat fruit and vegetables? You have no idea how they were picked? We’re they picked by trafficked people working in gulagesque conditions? Modern slavery happens to not just women but men too.How do you censor the supply chains to ensure your clothes were not made in an exploitative manner? By the same token do you think those workers want to be there machining your clothes ? Of course not, they do it for the money. How is that different to a porn actress?

How do you deal purchasing goods made in capitalist countries? Capitalism by its definition is exploitive. Profit is the unpaid labour extracted from the working classes.

As we all agreed earlier children / teens should NOT be viewing pornographic material. I am sure that people are wise to understand that they are watching a stylised fantasy, not a documentary instructional video.

Would you have a problem if a woman ran a porn business ? Actually there are quite a few.

The arguments often posted on here about exploitative pornography are often the same, but are almost always applicable to other industries. Yet porn is particularly singled out for retribution. Why?

If you see the sexual act as fundamentally special, perhaps a religious view, then it makes some sense. Yet these views are often presented in a secular manner.

The direction this thread is taking is whether or not the porn industry is exploitative, however this isn't necessarily the issue I have directly.

In regards to porn itself, each to their own, I know people watch, I have myself in the past, it is many people's reality. My fundamental issue her is not with porn itself, but with engaging in these activities with seemingly no regard for your children, who will pay the biggest price in all of this.

I am really surprised that all of those condoning their behaviour would have been quite happy for a video of their mum and dad doing graphic anal sex going around their school when they were teenagers.

There have been so many reports in the news of teenage suicide from online bullying and trolling, are you all seriously suggesting that their peers would just let them forget about it?!
