Is he bragging or lying?

I've been talking to this new guy for a few days now, we've arranged to meet up next week. He's mentioned having a house in spain, quite randomly too, I'm not sure whether to believe him or not I didn't pay much attention to it just replied with "oh that's nice". Then asked how often I go on holiday, I said I haven't been in years and then talked about how he's going to California this summer. It seems really odd to tell me, I'm finding it hard to believe but apart from that we've been getting on well

I was traveling around California in 1983 in a holiday from my first job. . Not an unusual place to go. When lreland was booming in the early 2000 half the country brought places in Spain. Neither would ring alarm bells for me.

Just don't get into a situation where you split the bill at a restaurant you can't afford to go to. Assume you're going to pay half and only go somewhere you can afford. But if you think he was showing off or bragging, then don't bother going out with him at all.
