I finish work tomorrow for my first holiday since October (took the minimum time at Christmas/NY). I am flat out on my knees tbh.

I've been chatting to a guy for a while and he asked if Friday night suited me. I said no, not really, I need to have a night in to myself.

It's not the most glamorous or sexy conversation obviously. Do I look like I'm not making an effort?

Yes it will look like that. If you are interested it probably would have been better not to mention the reason and just stick to the fact you couldn't do the date.

What would you think if he said "no sorry I want to stay in that night". It is perfectly reasonable but most people would assume the other weren't interested

Totaldogsbody · 28/03/2019 20:55

If you were really interested you would have said yes I think.

Crap. Ah well, it's done now.

Maybe ring him and explain?

CupidsGotShitAim · 28/03/2019 21:05

He's just messaged me so hopefully all is not lost.

I am just so tired and need some down time.

I get you OP as I am in a similar position at work- I simply cannot take leave until after a deadline I have. I called off a meet up tomorrow (there is s crowd so I won't really be missed) and wish I'd lied about the Reason as people have got quite annoyed at me. I don't mean this in a patronising way, but unless someone has felt the pressue and stress and by the end of the day barely string a sentence together, I don't think they can understand how it feels.

coffeecoffeecofffee · 28/03/2019 21:51

Message him back and ask him out Saturday evening? :)

coffeecoffeecofffee · 28/03/2019 21:52

Definitely take time for yourself @CupidsGotShitAim sounds like you've worked yourself ill! Hope you enjoy your relaxing Friday in. BrewWineThanks

General rule of thumb - if someone you ask out on a particular day and they say no but suggest another date, they're interested. If they just say no, they're not.

So, if you do like this guy, why not suggest another day.

When you do say no to a particular day, you don't have to explain yourself. "Sorry, that day doesn't work for me....but how about xxx" is absolutely fine.
