Can anyone help please’ am 21 weeks pregnant.. each morning I wake up feeling so ill. My nose is blocked I have bad headaches’ I feel shaky / weak and quiet poorly. As I get up and shower etc it does ease and by the end of the day it does pass. But will be back again the following morning..
This has been going on for at least a month now. I told my Midwide and she said our nasal passage swells in pregnancy but not much else.
I’ve tried Saline Sprays before sleep. Leaving window open. Vicks In a bowl. Raised pillows.
It’s driving me mad.. has anyone else has this please!
Thanks

Could it be hay fever? 2 of my kids and instated getting hat fever with the sudden spring over the last few weeks. Maybe take an antihistamine if you're allowed?

Dawnie6115 · 05/03/2019 13:42

I don’t normally suffer with Hayfever but that said doesn’t mean I can’t start.. It makes me feel so ill though’ like Flu like can hayfever do this too?

I'm 31 weeks and have had the stuffy nose and headaches for the last 6 weeks or so.
This morning I woke to discover I'd had a nose bleed in the night and put it down to the nasal swelling that you mention.

Take some paracetamol for the headaches but I think we just have to soldier on through the rest of it.

But the important thing is it's completely normal and you're not alone :)

HK20 · 05/03/2019 13:47

I also read you shouldn't use Vicks so might be worth double checking that one!

Dawnie6115 · 05/03/2019 15:20

HK20 that’s so reassuring to read am not the only one suffering’ it’s plagued me every day since Xmas almost now’ and feel like I live on Paracetamol..
That’s not good re the nose bleed Shock hope it settles down soon..
A pharmacist said Vicks was safe to use’ already checked that out but thank you incase I hadn’t

I had this when pregnant - it drove me mad.

If I'd have known about it, I would have used a neti pot and done nasal irrigation. I use it now for allergies/hay fever and it most certainly reduces the congestion.

It's just weak saline solution through your nasal passages, so completely safe in pregnancy.

Also, a tip that someone gave me a few years ago.... run the back of a switched on electric toothbrush along your face over your sinal passages, so ear to nose and over eye brows. Bizarrely, it 'dislodged' gunk and reduces blockage.

Dawnie6115 · 05/03/2019 17:30

Oh wow that does sound bizzare Grin but I will give it a go thank you..
I do already use saline spray before bed and during the day’ but it doesn’t seem to help Shock

Nasal irrigation is a bit more full on than just saline spray!

It's passing saline solution through your whole nasal cavities to flush out allergens and thin mucus.

I use a Nasopure bottle, but there are lots of different ones on the market, with websites with lots of people cheerily slushing out their nasal passages!

I used Sinex spray throughout all three of my pregnancies due to this. It does not contain the ingredient which can limit the blood flow to the placenta, and therefore made an informed choice to use it. It was either that or not be able to function for nine months as I couldn't sleep without using it (snoring / dry mouth / sinus pain etc)

Loudloopy · 07/03/2019 20:49

I'm so glad I've ready this as since I was litrely 9 weeks pregnant my breathing out my nose has got worse and worse causing me sleep problems because I'm sleeping with my mouth open 😭😭 driving me mad

wyoudo · 07/03/2019 20:51

It’s the extra blood you have causing pressure in your sinuses ... :(

Dawnie6115 · 07/03/2019 21:39

Oops sorry I thought you meant a spray’ I’ll look into nasal irragation..

Glad my post has helped you LoudLoopy’ it’s horrible isn’t it! I feel so ill when I wake up!
Debating booking Drs appointment now as I dread the ill feeling..

LittleMiss - do you know which active ingredient was in the sinex spray?
