Weird FB messenger thing...

Yesterday there was a birthday in my family. I posted photos of the celebration and people liked and commented on my post. I also messaged a couple of female friends.

Today I got a message from one of my male FB friends (a guy I've met, who lives in the US with his wife). All it was, was a heart symbol. I thought eh, but said, oh hi how are you? And he chatted saying he was fine and I told him my weekend plans and he chatted some more, mentioning my partner by name. I've not responded to his latest message.

I just noticed that I have a message from another guy I know (who I've also met, I do have some FB friends that I've not actually met but have known in various capacities online for years) and all it is, is the "heart eyes" emoji.

Call me paranoid, but what are the chances that two guys I know would randomly send heart emojis? I'm starting to wonder if they've been hacked or something? It seems a strange coincidence (I've not messaged either of them for years).

I'd be suspicious too OP, that's very weird I don't think you're being paranoid at all.. does anyone have access to your FB password etc

I've changed my password. Nobody had the previous one but I'm wondering if people can just access it somehow. Or if the guys have been hacked. Weird. There was no link or anything just the emoji.

Could you have accidentally uploaded a revealing snap to My Story? Since the update it is all too easy to do..

I've only used the story thing once, yesterday actually and it was a birthday related video (not birthday suit lol). I only recently uploaded the FB lite app so I could use it but can't see me using it much.

Was it posted to your story?

It could be these weird fb awareness things that people send hearts or whatever because they think it raises awareness for cancer. Did you "like" any posts of theirs?

I think it comes through as a private message if they react to something on your story. So if they reacted with a 😍 on a post (video or picture) on your story it'll come through as a message to you. Hope that makes sense.

It shook me up a bit though, it was so random. Glad it's nothing dodgy. I guess it's FB's sneaky plan to get people talking more by prompting you to chat through a random emoji landing in your inbox!

I don't think I'll be using the stories thing anymore, it's a bit annoying!

The weird thing is, the guy who first sent me the heart thing did have a thing for me years ago (we met online) before he met his wife so I was a bit weirded out by it!
