Dreading money matters

Hi does anyone e know if I can start a new claim for benefits while still living with my horrible ex partner i am trying to get a house to move out I have no money to go into private so I'm working with the council. he tries to controll the money we get even though it's a joint ESA claim (in his name) I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do and how to go about it

I'd start with CAB. See what they advise.
But yes, I believe you can start your own claim whilst living together.
Womens Aid may also be able to help you on advice.
Also have a chat with Shelter about housing.
