Would this bother you? A friend does this often and I don’t know if I’m being over sensitive. She’ll message something like ‘hey how are you?’ I reply and ask how she is then she doesn’t respond to that for hours. But I can see she’s online. I find it really unsettling. Why would someone do this and am I being daft?

It's control.
I've had people who do similar. It keeps you on your toes and is about them feeling more important subconsciously. They want your attention, you give it and they are satisfied and don't need to continue it until the next time they're feeling like they're not on your mind.

I never thought about it as being a control thing before

I have found that a lot of people will start text or onlne conversations and then life happens and they have to attend to other things. It happens to me too. Sometimes I start a chat with a friend but then my daughter has some sort of crisis and I have to deal with that, it might look like I'm still online but I may be dealng with dd online or in rl. If it were happening in rl I'd be pissed off probably, but otherwise it's just meh.

I have a 'friend' who takes weeks to reply to messages. Last time l messaged her she didn't msg me back for months, im not one to chase people but I do reply to her when she finally texts back but I feel pretty pissed off... To make matters worse she's always online on FB messenger, Maybe its time l cut her loose...
