Coping strategies for general waves of anxiety

I live in almost constant fear that something terrible is going to happen.

I couldn’t tell you what that thing is, just that it will be terrible. Some days it is so bad I feel physically sick for most of the day. I’m aware I have anxiety and have been to the doctor. They have offered medication but I don’t want to take it - maybe I should.

Any other tips for coping with this and keeping the feelings at bay? When I’m not feeling like this I’m pretty normal in terms of everyday functioning!

Therapy will help with strategy and a way of lessening the effects.

But in the moment, you could try closing your eyes and naming everything in the room. There are 3 books on my bed. One is... there is a pair of jeans on the floor. Etc

You can also try and find a rectangle where you breath in while following the long edges and out while following the short edges.

Hopefully there will help slow breathing, helps taking deep breaths and focuses your mind on other things.
