MIL and FIL hate each other and are so toxic

My MIL and FIL clearly detest each other, they are both early 70s and together for financial reasons as they wouldn't be able to afford two separate properties so they just stay together.

But they are vile towards each other and it's getting more and more uncomfortable to be around them. They collect DS on a Monday from school as MIL loves DS and wants to see him regularly.

But the time spent with them when we collect him, or the odd family meal, Xmas, birthdays etc is becoming unbearable the constant bickering telling each other to shut up, the general hateful vibe between them is awful.

I'm also worried DS is witnessing this disrespectful way they speak to each other.

Do any of you have this situation? How do you handle it?

So difficult i think i would keep away unless they could behave in a respectful way. What does your DH feel about it? Used to it perhaps. I would say damaging for your DCs

Tell them they have to behave, and if they can't just for one evening then this arrangement will have to stop.

Tell mil to pick up DS and take him to yours away from FIL. Would that work?

Unfortunately MIL doesn't drive, so they pick up DS and take them back to theirs.
