Marrying abroad NEED HELP

Hi everyone, we have decided to marry abroad . There will be 10 people including bride and groom. We want it as cheap as possible. Would just like to know anyone's experiences of marrying abroad and if possible how much you roughly paid? Thanks!

Do you have any idea of location/country? Am assuming this will make a massive difference to prices.

LIZS · 21/01/2019 12:50

Some countries require a minimum stay period which would add to your costs and it is a civil ceremony. Does it have to be abroad if cost is an issue?

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:00

Cheap countries really. We are watching price also lot of family issues so be nicer to have those we really want there while turning it into a holiday too

I was also going to ask about country. Would you not consider a registry office wedding in this country if cost is an issue?.

Will the other eight guests be willing and or be able to travel to see you get married overseas?.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 21/01/2019 13:02

Do you have a budget in mind?.

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:03

yes when I say cheap I mean not willing to spend £10,000 lol. Just a reasonable amount of money

OP posts:
Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:03

I'd say our budget would be 3k

We did Cuba.

Two weeks, AI.

Two adults and 2kids.

We did the big wedding there, but as a renewal as we did the legal bit here (us and two friends no pomp)

So the wedding, after drinks, meal, cake, photographer and videographer 3.5k all in.

Cost guests 750 -1k each for 2 weeks AI.

It was cheaper than Europe by KK.

Why are you doing it abroad if you haven't got somewhere special in mind?

seastargirl · 21/01/2019 13:07

We used exclusive yacht weddings in Cyprus, they were amazing and had loads of different options available. No point in giving price as it was 8 years ago and has changed a lot. But you can normally get decent priced package holidays to Cyprus and they have such a mix of hotels that you can really arrange according to your budget. I would recommend paphos gardens, our best man got married in paphos the year after us and we stayed here, they did hotel and apartments, self catering, all Inc etc so it was really easy for everyone to get what they wanted there.

The other option is to marry in a register office here and then you can have a ceremony and party in Spain which reduces the cost of people's trips.

You won't regret choosing to go abroad, for us it was amazing and the best decision we could have made. We accepted some people wouldn't come, but had a great mix of guests and felt really lucky that they had chosen to join us.

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:08

So what do you mean by renewal of vowels? Was it cheaper to do it that way

Another vote for Cyprus (we did it in Paphos). We had about 15 people come out and gave lots of notice to be able to pay to come if they wanted. Paid for mini buses to drive guests to and from small civil ceremony in town hall gardens followed by three course dinner in local restaurant (gists the could choose their food and it included fillet steak!) where we put some £ behind bar for a few drinks for everyone, owners took our cake to Irish bar two doors down after where there was more drinking and dancing. we then had a party on return in a room at the back of a pub for people who couldn't make it to celebrate with us. OP this was about 11 years ago but the cost for EVERYTHING, including our outfits, rings, legal fees in Cyprus, us staying out there for two weeks, party at home and a long weekend in a European city a few weeks later as a honeymoon was under 8k.

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:33

Sounds lovely ! I have been looking on a few websites about Cyprus looks beautiful... who should I go through ?

We did Olympic not sure if they're still about. You could organise it yourself but we paid to go via tour operator to make sure to the best of our knowledge everything was legal Grin. Although to this day both of us have no idea what the registrar was saying, his English was rusty!

seastargirl · 21/01/2019 13:52

We found going through someone like Thomas cook was way more expensive then if you used a local wedding organiser. There are loads about so quite easy to find them and they tend to have Facebook pages with reviews etc.

I know that the people we used are frequently at UK wedding fairs and are obviously happy to chat to brides aboutv the process you can get an idea of their prices here exclusiveyachtweddings.com/semi-inclusive-wedding-services/

We booked flights and hotel independently which again was cheaper than booking through an agent as our hotel gave us a great offer for doing a big booking (they upgraded all our party to all inclusive free of charge). It worked out for them as members of our party have been back every single year since.

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 13:52

Haha brilliant

Kelsoooo · 21/01/2019 17:04

By renewal of vows, we did the wedding dress and bridesmaids etc there, but it saved us having to have our wedding license and birth certificates translated and certified .

Beth54321 · 21/01/2019 17:23

Oh good idea!

We did it in Vegas 13 yrs ago so can't comment on cost. The marriage is legal in England. You have to register with your documents at the County Hall at least the day before. I booked mine all on-line. So easy and great fun!
