2 day period. Scared I will never be pregnant

I’m 35 and the last few years my periods have become shorter. Now they’re only 2 days. When I was a teen and early 20s they were 5-6 days.

I’ve not even met anyone yet.

Is this normal? Anyone else experienced this?

Don't worry, periods generally go on for 2-7 days and shorten. Are they more often?

YourBedTable · 12/01/2019 08:33

No they are once a month.

I feel so scared. How can they only be two days and so light? It only just occurred to me something could be wrong. Now I feel so worried.

Have you spoke to the doctor about this?

YourBedTable · 12/01/2019 08:50

Yes they said if regular then should be fine. But I still don’t get why.

If the doctors aren't worried, then you shouldn't be. My mam was 40 and she only had a 2 day period every few months - then accidentally fell pregnant!

YourBedTable · 12/01/2019 09:01

If they can’t explain it then that worries me.

I’ve woken up in a huge panic and tears, sorry if my posts sound dramatic! Always wanted a family and I feel scared about this.

I'm 39, I've had 2 day periods for the last 3ys after coming off mirena. Currently 10wks pregnant.

autumngazer · 12/01/2019 09:05

In 36 and have noticed my periods are getting shorter.

LoveItaly · 12/01/2019 11:11

My periods became much shorter in my mid twenties and by my thirties were down to one heavyish day and one light day. I fell pregnant as soon as I started trying aged 34 and 36, and had no problems whatsoever. I had also worried about it, but it clearly had no impact. It may be worth checking out just for peace of mind, though.

Dirtybadger · 12/01/2019 11:49

Periods do get shorter as you get older.

I work in reproductive health and see a lot of women in their early to mid 40s with accidental pregnancies because they believed their short or irregular periods meant they weren't very fertile.....!

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/01/2019 11:51

My periods got shorter in my 30s - when I was a teen they could be up to nine days (fun), down to maybe four, with only one heavy some months. I conceived in my fifth month of not using contraception, at 36.

Megan2018 · 12/01/2019 11:54

Mine have always been light, short, painless. I am now 40 and just got a positive test! We weren’t actively TTC.
I don’t think it makes any difference if regular (mine were).

Torsz · 12/01/2019 11:59

I came off the pill in feb 18 and was having no periods at all. We were trying to conceive but with no success (unsurprisingly) and we had lots of support from a fertility clinic to kickstart my cycle and eventually we built up to a 2 day period.
I was worried it wasn't enough but on the 4th cycle we conceived so it clearly was ☺️ the clinic didn't seem at all concerned that it was only 2 days (although I was worried) and evidently they were right!

silkpyjamasallday · 12/01/2019 12:04

Until I had DD at 21 my periods were only ever 2 days long and very irregular, they stayed the same for the whole 10 years I was menstruating prior to getting pregnant. Post the birth of DD I have had much heavier, more painful periods that last 4-6 days. I only weighed 7 stone before I had DD though and I am about a stone and a half heavier so I wonder if weight is a factor. There is a huge range of normal with periods, as long as they are regular you should be fine. When you get to the stage you are TTC then you can investigate further, but you may not even have to worry.

thinkingcapon · 12/01/2019 12:14

I've never ever had regular periods through my 20s/30s
Was on pill, got pregnant month after coming off it at 39......met partner at 38

It can happen lovely x

Bellendejour · 12/01/2019 12:14

I started to have shorter periods and had Peri menopausal panic - now 7 months pregnant at 41! Speak to go or you could do a fertility test if that will help.

Bellendejour · 12/01/2019 12:15

Jeezimacasalinga · 12/01/2019 14:25

My periods very similar - 1 heavy day and 1 or 2 lightish ones. No need to worry, I have 3 kids (conceived at 32, 34, 37) - all conceived first month of trying!

AnnieCat84 · 12/01/2019 16:38

hi @YourBedTable

I'm 33, as soon as I came off the pill around a year ago my periods went the same. Two days long, light and a very very long cycle! Up to 39/40 days sometimes! I was worried but have since fallen pregnant so try not to stress!
