Leave depressed partner?

My partner and I have a 6 week old baby. He’s seemed particularly depressed in the past few weeks though im pretty sure he was depressed before too. He basically doesn’t interact with the baby and just closes his eyes and sighs when he cries. Added to this is the fact he wanted me to have an abortion so I don’t feel like I can be surprised that’s he’s distant now. Only he was amazing when our son was first born! Seemed to completely come around but now worse than ever. I’m losing patience. We have become completely distant from each other.

It's uncommon, but men can get PND. Has he been to the GP?

However given what you've said about him not wanting a child, I think your relationship may be on its last legs.

Oooo I had one like this.

We’d been together 10 years but I’d trapped him, used him, he was going to leave me if I had a disabled child. When DS born he was ok for a few weeks but then didn’t get involved, checked out.

I lasted just after ds’ 1st Birthday. The resentment was unbearable

He is a weekend dad now which suits him fine!

Yes get the depression established of course, make some effort to talk it out of course too. However it may get to a point where he needs to shape up or ship out.
