Said DH to the dcs. He meant the guinea pig on the floor as the pets had been allowed out while he cleaned the cage.

He was annoyed as the dcs had made a mess and one of them tripped over.

He makes immature comments like this quite a lot - I’m a bit fed up of them to be honest as it sets such a bad example!!

Ds tripped and dh’s retort was to say hope you fall in. I found that an immature response. How is it mollycoddling? A simple “careful!” would have been more appropriate in my view. It just seemed a bit mean.

I got a bit annoyed with DD the other day as she'd been watching Horrible Histories, on which they were doing some sort of rap (to Gangnam style backing) which was basically the words, "poo, poo, poo, wee..." over and over again. After the tenth time I got a bit fed up of it but I didn't think it was worth making a fuss over.

A simple “careful!” would have been more appropriate in my view. It just seemed a bit mean.

And to be extremely boring, saying things like "careful" can actually be counterproductive to children's behaviour. It makes them more anxious, without actually teaching them anything. Specific is better. "careful of the poo on the floor" is better. "I hope you fall in the poo" is memorable and specific. So if anyone's parenting is sub par, I'm afraid it's yours OP. Sorry.
