Are there any good websites for typing in a phone number and finding who it belongs to? No luck with "who called me" site. Thanks.

Facebook?
Whatsapp?

Could you call it from a cheap PAYG and see who answers? Otherwise just search on Google and see what comes up.

Just type the phone number into google, it indexes the other search sites. It's rare that it'll show up a normal domestic phone though.

Text it a "new phone who dis".

Call it from a phone box and check out the answer message.

Whatsapp

Save the number to your phone under a name - X will do.
Download the application Whatsapp if you don't have it.

Open Whatsapp and check the number in your contacts under the name you saved it as. If the person has Whatsapp, you may get some information depending on what is saved on their profile. Lots of people have a profile photo and a name - but not everyone. If the person doesn't show at all, they don't have Whatsapp.

Beware though - if you have Whatsapp and a profile photo -people can check you out in the same way.

Facebook
Depending on their privacy settings and what is stored, you may find searching a number will lead to the right person. Not applicable if they don't have a phone number saved.

LinkedIn

If you are on LinkedIn and have your settings adjusted to find people through your phone number, you maybe able to track them. I think this only works on the app though and not on the website.

Call it

Hide your number on your phone so you don't show in a caller ID and just call it. If you get a voicemail - may be a recorded voice to give you a clue.

If a person answers be ready with a question like:

"Hi I think you called me as I had a missed call from this number. I was just returning your call."

They will say "I don't think so. Who is this?"

You can make up a name ideally something not obviously fake (not Jane Smith) but general enough that they can't be sure that they don't know you ("Sarah Johnson") "Sorry who is this?" and they may tell you.
