Just that really. My fiance and I are getting married in October 2019 and thinking about a honeymoon destination. As it's October we were thinking overseas somewhere (UK based) but keen to hear all suggestions and stories. Thank you

Eastbourne.

chuckanotherlogon · 10/12/2018 16:12

Post in Travel op, there are some very knowledgeable folk.
What sort of holiday are you looking for, what's your budget and for how long?

JosiahJames · 10/12/2018 16:23

Thanks. I'm on my mobile so not sure how to do that right now but will try.
We have about £1.5k, maybe 10 days max
Eastbourne may be great for summer but towards the end of October not really Grin

we went on a UK mini moon after ours and delayed the big honeymoon by a year. The
Uk one was a log cabin and was incredible. what type of honeymoon do u want? heat or cold? city or countryside or beach etc?

Kong5891 · 11/12/2018 21:49

The Maldives! It’s heaven on earth 🌏

Aroundtheworldandback · 11/12/2018 22:02

I would delay it by a couple of months and go on a fabulous magical ski holiday... but that’s just me.

theveryhighlife · 11/12/2018 22:17

South Africa- great temperature that time of year, wine tasting, beautiful beaches, delicious food, so much to see and do. It's really good value when you're there too.

JosiahJames · 12/12/2018 09:24

Thank you - I have been doing some major research.

@Kong5891 - this is exactly where we are looking!

My fiance is not yet a British Citizen so I have been looking at countries that he can go too visa free. These are:

Barbados
Seychelles
Maldives
Mauritius

Is October a good time to go to any of these places?!
I think I will have to....expand our budget slightly :)

@Aroundtheworldandback - I worked on a ski resort for two years (well 3 ski seasons) so this would be my dream too! Although fiance would probably think it is hell on earth :)

@NeverStopExploring - I LOVE the idea of a log cabin in the woods. My cousin got married at Christmas time years ago and did this for his honeymoon - the pictures were magical

You won't get far in any of those places on your budget. In fact in the Maldives if you want to stay for 2 weeks you'll need to have that budget x 10.

At that time of year the weather should be perfect in Cyprus, and still lovely in any of the hotter Greek islands and in Tuscany or Malta.

If you can get cheap flights your money will go a long way in Thailand so long as you don't expect a luxury hotel.

hellsbellsmelons · 13/12/2018 11:34

I was gonna say Bora Bora but 1.5K won't put a dent in it.
Which is the reason why I've never been but I'd love to.
The ones your fiance is suggesting are way way over your budget.
Would you consider Hurghada in Egypt?
Baron Palace Resort is gorgeous and around 1.5K in October.
Turkey maybe? Olu Deniz is beautiful.
As it's October you need to consider the weather.

ElsieCat · 13/12/2018 12:10

Yes Turkey would be great in October. A little quiet maybe but if you pick a big enough resort there should still be enough going on. And very good value for money at the moment.

Kalkan is really beautiful.

MarieG10 · 13/12/2018 12:55

Kalkan is lovely. Busy but may be quieter that time of year. Kas down the road is better. However, depends what time you go in October. Mid to late month can be very variable and raining (can be lovely as well!). You will need so,etching warmer on a night

Australia was my fav for honeymoon but needs more than 10 days and £1500

Hope you have a great wedding

isseywithcats · 13/12/2018 13:09

Barbados is fabulous, the sea is like a huge swimming pool, the food is amazing. and the people are friendly and because the bajans have a decent standard of living the atmosphere is very good
in some ways they are more british than we are lol, 1.5k you would be looking at self catering

Alfie190 · 13/12/2018 13:23

Your budget is not sufficient for any of the places listed, it would barely cover flights! I was going to suggest Thailand but it is too wet in October.

I think you need to stick to Europe on cost grounds, perhaps Fuerteventura in the Canaries.

JosiahJames · 13/12/2018 13:41

Thank you for your suggestions - the budget is flexible - I realise that £1.5k wont be enough now.

I am actually working in Barbados over the new year so hope to do some research there

Australia would have been an option as we both have a sister living in Oz however my fiance's work schedule will ''only'' let him have a max of 10 days annual leave for honeymoon
