Hi everyone

I wonder if someone can help me; beside myself with worry and stress.

I've long believed my partner is seeing someone else.

Stupidly I checked his phone the other night while he was asleep and found a whatsapp message to someone.

However it had a padlock symbol next to it and when I went to open the chat it was just a screensaver type picture with Monday written on the top.

As you can tell I'm not very technical and this is a bit beyond me.

Sorry I've never seen that before and no idea what it means. Have you tried googling it??

NikkiDee75 · 10/12/2018 11:47

Yes but I really don't understand the millions of answers.

Stupidly i forgot to take a photo of the two screens

is it not the notification of the message on the home screen? If it is you need to enter the phone pin then go to WhatsApp and open the message in there.

eatingtomuch · 10/12/2018 11:51

It sounds like it's away to protect your messages and keep them private. You need an additional password to open it

RatRolyPoly · 10/12/2018 12:02

There are apps you can download that allow you to pin-protect certain Whatsapp conversations, like this one:

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapplock&hl=en_GB

Be careful though OP, as it says in the blurb about this one a lot of these apps will alert the phone's owner or take a photo when someone tries to unlock chats and fails.

BumbleBeee69 · 10/12/2018 12:05

I wasn't aware you could 'Pin lock' messages in Whatsapp, I know there's a feature for Viber though. Hmm

Orange6904 · 10/12/2018 12:06

Sounds like he has locked the chat op to make it private. Any other behaviour that is standing out lately?

RatRolyPoly · 10/12/2018 12:11

You can't do it on Whatsapp itself Bumble, but you can download apps that will do it.

NikkiDee75 · 10/12/2018 12:24

There's a lot of odd behaviour; but nothing concrete.

I need solid proof, and it's eating away at me !

I think the fact he's locking messages from a woman is enough proof for me that he's up to something he shouldn't be. Doesn't matter whether he's done anything physical; when you get to the point you're hiding messages from your partner you've already cheated in my opinion.

BumbleBeee69 · 10/12/2018 12:30

Aaahh I see now, thank you

ethelredonagoodday · 10/12/2018 12:44

Hope it's not what you think OP.

Orange6904 · 10/12/2018 12:59

Is there any reason he would need to lock it?

TattyCat · 10/12/2018 13:04

I don't know whether 'locked' whatsapp conversations will register in the same way, but you can always go to :

Settings
Data & Storage Usage
Network Usage

Look at the volume of 'messages sent' and 'messages received'. It will help if you can, on a regular basis, scroll down to 'Reset Statistics' and click on that then reset them. If messages have been deleted, the stats won't add up between the volumes sent/received and what's in the chats.

Otherwise, you can look under 'storage usage' and see current chats although if they're 'hidden' by another app, I'm not sure whether they show up. I guess they do, otherwise you wouldn't have seen a padlocked chat...

I think you need to ask to borrow his phone for some spurious reason, then perhaps just ask him?
