Name changed.
We have 1 DS.
We have had a hard relationship but always came out the other side, deaths etc. He had to move out of the family home to move in with a relative who was ill and has never moved back in. I do everything for DS and ask for no help. Most of the time getting no financial help either.

I'm just not happy, I never know what mood he is going to be in when he comes round. It's exhausting. It's got to the point where I need to think about my own mental health.

I've never had to break up a relationship, we've been together 6 years. How do I do it? I've checked out but I don't want things to change for DS as he is young enough to be confused but old enough to know somethings changed.

Help me please.

Practically speaking, he’s already gone. You just need to formalise contact and to stop any relationship type activity.

You can’t control his reaction but you can be very clear where your boundaries are and tell him to leave if he gets moody/ argumentative etc

It probably is best if contact is established outside of your home to make it crystal clear to both your son and his father that things have changed. You son has already adapted to his father moving away and he will adjust to you not being a couple.
