Just thought I would pop this as a thread as I’ve seen a few posts where people want to get out but have little money and family aren’t an option. Obviously not suitable if DC are involved in most cases but might help a few who are in a position to think sideways.
Guardianship home schemes. These involve a bit of cash but far less than private rents in most cases. Need to be over18 (21 in some cases) ex office blocks, care homes etc, they often aren’t lovely inside, functional though and ok for short term if saving up for a place on your own, usually at least clean and warm and you get company. More obviously in bigger places/cities. Can be found by googling property guardianship, several big companies do it
- House sitting, quite in demand in some areas and they pay you in some cases or if not its at least free rent! And no bills, Often will involve dog walking or cat sitting etc
- Flat/house shares. Don’t discount whatever age you are. I know someone in their 50s who did a share with one other mature lady who was away a lot and she practically had a very nice place in a posh area to herself and put her own stuff in storage, lower rents, shared bills and much lower deposits involved
- There are schemes to go and live in free or at very very low cost with a ‘mature/elderly person who needs just a bit of help. Often as low as 8 hours a week for shopping, but of cleaning and some company a few nights a week for them. I know someone who did this too and actually really enjoyed it, moved on and still visits! Google ‘homeshare’ I think they call it
Hope some of these might be useful .
