I'm interested - does anyone have this sort of friendship and did it work out? Did it work? How did the transition from friends to more happen?

I only ask as I have a very very intense friendship with a bloke that has an extreme amount of emotional intimacy and frequency of conversation/contact, but it confuses me and I'm not sure what he actually wants (nor what I want), and it's so unusual to be that close to a member of the opposite sex I find myself constantly down-playing our friendship when I talk to other people.

I've gotten together with friends in the past, but it's always involved alcohol and quite an uncomfortable teething period, and in this case I've no idea what friend thinks except I do know that we aren't friends in the normal sense of the word.

What are your stories?
