I wonder if anyone can help. My friend has been married for over 30 years, kids grown up but living at home. House is paid for. She always worked part time and he has his own business. He wants to sell the house 50/50 - she has no hope of getting a mortgage due to age and income. Any advice would be a help. I get the legal thing but emotionally she’s not there yet. Thanks all

She needs legal advice. 50/50 doesn't just mean the house. It means 50/50 of all assets over £500.

That’s helpful - her emotional state at the min means she isn’t able and then there is the expense.... I think he thinks he’ll
Keep his business, other assets pension etc...

No she's entitled to pension rights, business, private bank accounts etc etc.
See a lawyer straight away. My settlement was 60/40. So don't let him bulldoze proceedings.
Do NOT believe his valuation of the business. Get an independent valuation. She has leverage here, but needs legal guidance. So get a shit hot lawyer with a track record.

Noego how do you go about finding a shit hot lawyer???

noego · 14/09/2018 16:38

You could try the CAB in your area.
You can research on Google for your area.
You could ask people locally who have been through divorce
You could post on here and ask an MNer in your area

You can find out if they are a specialist in family law by asking them at the initial meeting. Most are FOC for the first 30 minutes.
