How do you write an online dating profile?

I understand the obvious - don't be negative, moan about your ex, use innuendo - but I don't know where to start. If I could come up with a punchy first line the rest would probably flow from that, but I simply can't think of anything.
Can any seasoned online daters offer words of advice?

I used OLD to meet my partner (match) and all I can say is just be honest about you and what you want but be light hearted about it at the same time. I found, in my years of using it, a longer description drew people in more.

I think my intro was just "38 year old, single woman" or something similar.

In the main bit I just said (and this was 5 years ago so I'm totally para-phrasing) "I'm single and looking to meet xxx, I'm tall at 5'9 so would prefer a man taller than this, or someone who enjoys wearing high heels (!) I live in xxx and work in a very dull office job, am an adreneline junkie so a love of rollercoasters is a must. I'm easy going, have a bit of a dry and sarcastic sense of humour and enjoy my own space. I've always wanted to try xxx and xxx but don't have anyone in my life to share these with. I'm not into pubs and clubs, prefer dinner and a movie. Yadda yadda

It takes perseverance big time, and filtering out a whole bunch of idiots and I didn't bother with those who just sent one liners. It took a while but in the end I got a nice reply from someone, plucked up the courage to meet him and the rest is history (I feel like the poster girl for OLD sometimes!)

Good luck!

Ask a trusted friend to help you. Preferably one who has been there and done that. You can alter your profile at any time so get one up and running and don’t worry too much. Good luck!

Thank you both. Yes, will ask a friend to take a look too.

Does anyone have suggestions for an attention grabbing first line / opener?

I once went on OLD and wrote

"Grumpy, no sense of humour, usually in a mood, high maintenance, don't message me "

I was literally inundated 😂 apparently because of my great sense of humour and individual approach
