If you've been to rape counselling (and sorry if you have had to) did you find it helpful?

I can't quite imagine talking about the details- did you need to/ find it helpful?

Am having treatment for anxiety / depression anyway but haven't admitted this possible cause or discussed it

I started what was meant to be CBT for anxiety and the whole thing came tumbling out. It turned into trauma counselling instead.

Yes I had to go through the details - it was recurring intrusively and in fragments so I had to effectively exorcise that by reconstructing the experience. The therapist also taught me techniques to re-ground myself in reality and the present when the sense memories were too much.

There were times I'd rather have crawled over broken glass than relive the experience but it worked. PM if you want to ask more.
