Depo injection

Hi I'm totally new to this and I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar story or any effects of the depo injection I've recently came back from a holiday after getting the injection for the second time two months ago I have woke up with really bad anxiety worrying and panic attacks I have gone from being so happy to so depressed I have two little ones and thought it would be best to get some advice so I spoke to the doctor over the phone and they said it was very rare to become depressed or have anxiety from the depo injection I know nothing about it or why this is happening and would love to hear your stories

Depression is listed as a "common" (more than 10% of patients report this side effect) side effect of the depo injection. Anxiety is considered "rare" (less than 0.1%). So your Doctor was not correct to say what they did.

I would advise going back to your GP and discussing alternative contraception with someone who ideally has an interest in reproductive stuff. Often the GP practice website will list the partners and salaried GPs and their special interests.

I was on the injection for 3 years had a break and then started it again in 2013 until the start of 2018 because I wanted to try for a baby, the only issue I had with the depo was weight gain and inconsistency with periods, I didn’t find any changes due to the depo that changed my mood or made me feel anxious or depressed but everyone is different, maybe take a note pad with you at all times to note down when you feel like this and what may trigger you so you might be able to see a pattern but if you still find it doesn’t help contact your gp
