Hello :)

I have been with my other half for 4 years now and have always felt anxious around his family. I can't decide whether I don't like them or if I am just scared of them. They are very negative people and are extremely clingy and emotional, they have always been nice to me but whether this is fake or genuine I don't know. Nothing ever seems to be good enough for them, they constantly moan about my partner which makes me very uncomfortable, they are too involved in our relationship and ask for too much of us. One moment they are very happy with us then the next they ignore us. I really don't know what to do if I didn't love my partner so much I would leave him because of them.

Please help me I need some advice on how to handle this situation :( xx

Could you give any examples?

Is your DP happy with his family? What does he think about it?

HoleyCoMoley · 14/08/2018 17:03

Do you have to see them if they make you feel uncomfortable, what does your dp think about it.

Could you even just remove yourself from the family for a while, make excuses not to go and give yourself some space from them to try an work out what the best solution is for you and your OH x

Your man is key here; what does he think about his family's behaviours?. Does your man have your back here or is he the sort of man who says, "well you know what they are like" variety.

These people will not change OP; you also have to decide where your boundaries are with regards to them because they seem too low and all over the place. Establish firm and consistent boundaries. This will be your life too with them going forward as well particularly if you were to say marry and have children.

Why do you see them at all given what they are like?.

Hiya,

My partner is a very closed book he’s caring and amazing but it’s very hard to get him to speak his mind. He works for his Dads company so has to try and maintain a positive relationship with his parents... but if I’m honest I think he is scared of his parents. He knows that they make me feel upset and anxious but I think he also feels the same :( it’s such a hard situation x
