So last night my partner and me argued, (not relay argued, but he was talking to me like sh** so I went to chill upstairs out his way. He calls me down to change the cable at the back of the TV as I have smaller hands than him and apparently he cant do it (although he manages when I'm not around). I do it while he is in the kitchen. And go bk upstairs and whilst checking my kid are sleeping OK I hear him say wrong bloody cable you dickhead, it was quite loud. So I sort out my child who had woken up and then went downstaors I was literally five min max, I ask him did you call me a dickhead and why cos I did the cable as he had asked. He laughed and said what are you on about, your crazy I never said anything...and suggested maybe I needed an early night. I know he said it. It was said loud enough.... Is this gaslighting or am I being over sensitive? My brother said i was over sensitive.

What is gaslighting?

mogratpineapple · 07/08/2018 19:45

If you are really sure you heard him say it - definitely gaslighting.

notthisagain83 · 07/08/2018 19:46

@TheConstantMoaner - Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity.

@Bambi99 - Yes i would say that it was. Does he do this often?

Bambi99 · 07/08/2018 19:48

I definitely heard him, he does it all the time with stuff. I sometimes doubt myself, but not this time, I was pissed he said it so loud when kids were asleep. but it is over trivial stuff so why does he do it.

Sounds like he said it out of anger and regretted it so denied it.

Bambi99 · 07/08/2018 19:53

I thought he said it out of anger, but don't know why he wud take it bk he has said much worse, I would of just told him to stop talking to me like that and gone upstairs. I'm struggling to explain his behaviour to those closest to me, I'm thinking maybe it's me being to sensitive. X
