I have been with DP on/off for 5 years and we have been through an awful lot e.g. deaths, illness and other mishaps. Beginning of this year we have been the best we've ever been, however the last 5/6 weeks i have been unsure. I feel like I want to be with him but i dont want to sleep with him, and sometimes miss the excitement of dating/falling in love with someone new? has anyone else felt like this, how did you deal with it?

Yeah. It means you have fallen out of love with your boyfriend but you're staying because you're afraid of change.
