My friend's husband is completely insane. The kind of abuse he subjects her to is awful. She has 3 children and not a penny to her name. Recently he's begun to abuse their oldest daughter as well, which she says is the final straw. Tonight she finally packed a bag, told him she wants a divorce, and went with the kids to her mums. I'm overjoyed but this isn't the first time she's tried to leave and he always manipulates her back. I'm desperate for this to be it, the time she finally leaves him. The thought of her going back makes me feel sick.
I want to help her but she lives in New York so I have no idea what services are available to her. She has no money whatsoever, the financial abuse has been very extreme. I'd happily send her money but she's thrown herself into a MLM "business" as a way to earn the money to leave since he wouldn't allow her to get a real job. We all know what MLM victims and their uplines are like - she's convinced this is her ticket to freedom. If I sent her money I think it'd just go straight into "inventory".
So, besides giving her emotional support, I don't know how to help. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is anyone in New York and knows what services are available? The Freedom Program do an online course for a small fee, maybe I could pay for her to do that? I really want to help in a practical way!
