Norethisterone to delay period?

Not sure what section to post this -
I’m going to Spain next month and just realised my period is due two days before I go. I hate using tampons and I’ve seen taking norethisterone tablets can delay the period. I’ve seen that side effects can be a big issue so wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it?
I really don’t want to be on my period for holiday but also don’t want to feel unwell the whole time from taking the tablets.
Also Im quite irregular still since having my baby 8 months ago so I don’t know if that makes a difference? Xx

i never had any side effects when using it

Also, how long can you take it for? Xx

Yeah I’ve done it a few times. You take it a couple of days before your period starts and then continue taking it as long as you want it stopped for.

I took it for two weeks on holiday last year. No side effects apart from slightly bloated which I get with pms anyway and a normal period when I stopped.

Ok so I did the advanced search.
So now I have a couple more questions.
I’m actually due another period before the one at the time of my holiday.
Am I better off delaying the first period so I then come on after my holiday? Will that work or will it mess up my cycle even more than it already is and I end up having a period like 2 weeks after and still be on for my holiday?
Am I better off taking the mini pill and over running it or taking the mini pill and norethisterone?
Also if I start taking the mini pill at the date of my next period and from what I remember that makes you go 21 days then a 7 day break, that would mean I’m on a week before my holiday which is fine but does the mini pill regulate your cycle straight away? Xx

You'd be better with the combined pill rather than the mini pill as the mini pill can cause erratic bleeding (p.s. combined pill is taken for 21 days then a 7 day break whereas mini pill is taken every day with no breaks). You can also run 2 packs of the combined pill together with no break to miss a withdrawal bleed

dementedpixie · 15/07/2018 12:25

And I don't think you can take the mini pill plus norethisterone anyway

Betty74 · 15/07/2018 12:28

Right ok, this is all so confusing 🙄
I think combined pill is the one I meant.
I’m guessing I should phone my doctor and see what my options are. Xx

I’m on the pill that has no breaks and I haven’t had a period in over a year, it's fantastic!
