Eloping

Me and my partner have finally agreed on eloping. It will be just us and our 3 children.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of how or where to do it?

I've googled the obvious Gretna but it doesn't really appeal to us. We would like something rural/rustic and hopefully be allowed to bring our dog aswell Smile

Is there any place special to you both, could you look at a registry office in an area you both love? We looked at Gretna and it wasn’t our cup of tea, seemed commercialised

We got married in Stratford upon Avon and had 2 witnesses and my dog!! Very recently, so dogs are very welcome as long as they're well behaved and your witnesses can look after them whilst you're doing the preliminaries.

Yeah we feel like Gretna is very commercialised.
We don't have anywhere particular in mind. Just want to see if anyone has any ideas outside the usual box Smile

I will look into Stratford upon Avon too. Thank you for the suggestion Smile

My husband and I got married on the west coast of Scotland, google ‘wee weddings’ it was amazing

We eloped in Cornwall, if you google “elopement Cornwall” you get a few different options

Take a look at Lower Barns in Cornwall. It may be what you are looking for, and dogs and children welcome. I have been to a wedding there and personally the venue wasn’t my taste and thought it rather expensive for what it was, however the couple had hired the whole venue which added to cost. It was very well organised though. And very quirky.

I got married in Gretna Green. Can honestly say it wasn't commercialised at all when we made our own touches to it. The staff at the hotel were amazing too and couldn't do enough for our wedding party

@modip we eloped to casealrag cottagebeith wee weddings in April. Bloody loved it. OP google ‘CREAR wee weddings’ it sounds exactly what you want. They even provide witnesses (the photographer and piper). Good luck

Thank you. I will look at all suggestions Smile

Where do you live OP? In September, I’m holding a stall (I do stationery) at a wedding fair aimed for people looking to elope. It’s in High Wycombe if you’re relatively local? Lots of businesses, talks and workshops to give ideas Smile
