Ever think about the one that got away?
Married, very happily, amazing new baby but found myself sat doing the night feed casting my mind back and wondering

I think I married mine because I don't have one.

SummerWinter · 10/07/2018 12:10

I like to think I’m the one that got away for a couple of men from my past Grin

RatherBeRiding · 10/07/2018 12:17

They get away for a reason. Maybe he was the right person but at the wrong time, but if you are happy now then focus on that.

And, of course, the grass is always greener! Maybe if you'd married him and had children, mortgage, domestic bliss etc - it wouldn't have turned out to be as perfect-ever-after as you thought.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 10/07/2018 16:11

He resurface after 20 years so I jumped at the chance to give it a go.

TOTAL DISASTER.

There was a very good reason he 'got away' before. Just wish he'd stayed away!!!

Still, you live and learn. At least I don't have to waste my time wondering 'What if' anymore! Grin

yes my first big one was when i was 16 he was 23 lasted about 6 months, and now im 61 and he would be 68 would love to meet him again just once , to see how his life went,

moodance · 10/07/2018 16:14

Oh dear ... what a horrible feeling to have.

No, I don't feel like that ... I am with my soulmate.

Sorry you are not in your happy place with your new born 😢

newmumwithquestions · 10/07/2018 16:17

Yes. I’m very happy and even if the one that got away came back I wouldn’t change anything (I probably wouldn’t even meet up because really what would it achieve?). But I do sometimes wake up wondering what could have been.

cafenoirbiscuit · 10/07/2018 16:29

Yup. Still think about what could have been, but I know the dream would far outweigh the reality

WasFatNowThin · 10/07/2018 16:47

Mine came back into my life after 25 years, we were both in relationships but had a short fling, it was nice but I'm glad I didn't marry him!

Tirednessiskillingme · 10/07/2018 16:47

I had this also after having a baby. Watched from a distance (fb) as he divorced his wife then introduced his children to one woman after another (fb photos). Might have taken 10+ years but i'm so glad he got away.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 10/07/2018 17:03

Oh no, exes are exes for a very definite reason. Mine are all nice enough people but I wouldn't be willing to go back for all the money in the world.

One of mine wandered in and out of my life from time to time and made huge gestures whenever he felt me teetering on the brink of forgetting him, then wandered silently back out of my life once he knew he had me again. He's probably the closest thing to 'the one that got away' because I always held onto the thought that he was my 'one'.

billybigballs · 11/07/2018 06:48

I think there's something about having a newborn that makes you cast your mind back over your own life and wonder about other avenues you might have taken. They are brand new after all and have a completely unblemished life ahead of them. It's got nothing to do with not being in a 'happy place' with your new baby Hmm

I remember driving when DS was born and thinking about someone who didn't even 'get away' - he never was in the first place! I think it's just a healthy way of processing what's happened to you in your life at a point where you have a lot of time for thought and reflection.

Olikingcharles · 11/07/2018 10:45

Mine came back into my life after 30 years ( been an emotional rollercoaster to say the least). Honestly i wished he'd stayed away as just a what if memory....i'm still sruggling with it all to be fair.

0ccamsRazor · 11/07/2018 10:58

No, I have married my soulmate, but some ex's have over the years tried to rekindle things but I just ignore them. One contacted me after his 1st marriage ended, I didn't reciprocate, he then found me on fb and tried to engage me in conversation which his 2nd wife would not be pleased with, I ignored then blocked when he would not stop, Ugh! What is it with these entitled crappy men?

Op you sound as though you are in a Sad space during those night time feeds. Do you have anyone to confide in?
