What does this mean? Dumped

Hi,
Been on these forums a while but never posted.
Recently been dumped by a guy who I've been seeing 5 months as "he's holding me back".
This came completely out of the blue and he's said that he cannot possibly be friends with me.
My head is all over the place, what does this even mean?
From experience, is there someone else?

Quite possibly. It sounds like a variant of the 'it's not you it's me' line, which is just something men say when, for any number of reasons, they no longer want a relationship with you.

Sorry this has happened, OP. Try not to waste any more thought analysing it. I hope you can soon move on.

I think it sounds like something you say when you're trying to let someone down gently - that you're holding them back, that they're better off without you.

I'm sorry you're hurting but there's no obvious way of telling whether there's someone else or he just decided that the relationship wasn't for him any more.

Sounds like it op.

I recently had the "I don't deserve you" line.

Some men are full of shit.

At least yours had the bollocks to end it. Mine has just disappeared! Oh and not for the first time......

Thanks all, there are lots of niggly things that just didn’t add up, messages on his phone from girls names saved with ????? After their first name With the little emoji with a love heart coming out of its mouth, telling me the day earlier that he really hoped it was a long term thing.
I think I’m just annoyed that he’s literally done it without a care in the world, telling me he missed me loads and one minute and then gone the next. I also got the it’s nothing wrong with you it’s all me line!
