Am I being unreasonable?

So recently money has been abit tight due to me being on par pay and my partners company only paying him in drive and drabs.
It is my birthday tomorrow and today my aunt gave me £70 in a card.
With £10 of it I bought some bongela a sippy cup for my little one and some cotton buds.
My partner asked if I would like to do anything tomorrow I said I wouldn't mind going to a retail park near us and gettin some shorts I have had my eye on for months. They are £15 he looked at me as though I was something he had stood in and said "where are you gettin the money from?" So I said "I was going to use £15 out my birthday money and the rest can go towards other stuff we need like food shopping for example. He just gave me a filthy look and shook his head in disbelief.
I'm really annoyed to be honest because our little one was born in December and from January to March he spent over £800 on his hobby until I put a stop to it because we are still struggling money wise and can't justify all that money.
Now I feel like an idiot for even suggesting going out to buy the shorts and suppose I will just have to have my eye on them for a little while longer.

Buy the shorts! He’s being really horrible.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/05/2018 01:34

And happy birthday! Flowers

Emmageddon · 27/05/2018 01:37

Buy the shorts. Happy birthday. Your DP is a fool.

ijustwannadance · 27/05/2018 01:41

He's a gobshite. Buy yourself the shorts.

DownTownAbbey · 27/05/2018 05:42

He's spent £800 on a 'hobby' and you can't spend £15 of your own money on clothes???

Duchessgummybuns · 27/05/2018 05:45

You know you’re not unreasonable. Your H is a twat.

dilly123 · 27/05/2018 07:22

Given that it's your birthday money & that he's spent all that money on a hobby... I'd definitely buy the shorts & I'd buy a top to go with them & maybe a new lipstick too

Anniegetyourgun · 27/05/2018 07:36

Sounds like his revenge for you stopping him pouring money into his hobby is to make you feel bad about spending anything on yourself. Like, if you've got enough for a £15 pair of shorts how DARE you say he can't spend another hundred on his fun? Obviously you're made of money Hmm

One of those classic cases of what my father used to call "what's yours is ours and what's mine's my own".

Scott72 · 27/05/2018 07:42

"until I put a stop to it"
Ha. But was this hobby of his something he'd been doing for a while and he loved? Obviously you can't afford it. But I hope you tried to reason with him and convince him to just put it aside for a while, before having to resort to telling him to just give it away.

Deehit · 27/05/2018 07:50

My arguement for his hobby was that it was costing a lot and with the weather being nice at the min the garden wasn't finished so we couldn't sit outside so I said once the garden is done then you can spend some money but until then any money spare needs to go into the garden and other household things so that makes me a hypocrite?

Jeez, there are some awful men on here today, buy the shorts OP!!

AtrociousCircumstance · 27/05/2018 08:00

Christ, the boards are awash with tales of unbelievable pricks this morning.

He’s being a mean, selfish, waste of your time OP. Buy yourself the shorts.

stevesmithsmum · 27/05/2018 08:03

He sounds like a catch!

You should have asked him where he was taking you. Is he going to get you a gift, you think?

Btw....get the shorts. You deserve it.

Greenkit · 27/05/2018 08:06

£70 is your birthday money, spend it, save it do what you bloody well want with it

What is his hobby?

He is a dick!!!!

Scott72 · 27/05/2018 08:12

"that makes me a hypocrite"
Nott at all, you sound very fair while he is being unreasonable and immature.

theredjellybean · 27/05/2018 08:17

I can see his point though. You said any spare money has to be spent on the garden or house maintenance. He sees you have £55 spare and your spending it on yourself.
I don't necessarily agree with him but can see his side of this.
Buy the shorts and the other forty quid goes into family pot.
OP if he has spare money would you be OK with him having a bit for his hobby and bit goes in pot?

Bluntness100 · 27/05/2018 08:24

Buy the shorts, he's being petty because you stopped him spending on his hobby.

Deehit · 27/05/2018 08:29

He recently got some tax back £1800 to be exact and not one penny of it went on the house or his hobby I'm yet to figure out what he's done with it. As for the gift I very much doubt I will be getting anything I got absolutely nothing for Xmas valentines or my first Mother's Day. I bought him a bike just before Xmas because he said he really wanted it then I found out he has sold the bike and The money has been spent on stuff like food shopping nappies etc

Wildlingofthewest · 27/05/2018 08:32

Buy the shorts and spend the rest of your birthday money on you!
And ask him where the £1800 tax rebate has gone.... that’s a hell of a lot of money!

Maelstrop · 27/05/2018 11:40

Buy the shorts, it’s YOUR money and a gift, so doesn’t need to be taken into account for household stuff. Fuck him, ask where the £1800 has gone, he’s got a massive cheek frowning at you for wanting £15 shorts!

KinkyAfro · 27/05/2018 14:19

You need to fuck him right off, he sounds like a user

Deehit · 28/05/2018 09:24

My new shorts look great....and my new underwear and moisturiser seen as they were on sale Smile
Happy Birthday to me
