Feelings for a friend

Has anyone any advice about this? How to reconcile a friend liking you very much as a person (ie calling me a great person and a great friend and saying he cares about me, also saying I look good) but not as ‘more’? I have said how I feel but it’s not reciprocated, and we’ve not seen each other much since (it’s been about four months). We’ve fallen back in touch again though and I’ve missed his friendship. I know he doesn’t have feelings. Mine are largely gone but there’s still a flicker left, especially whenever he’s in touch to chat for no reason. Does anyone have any advice on how to work this through?
