Reasons he’s not a good catch and not worth obsessing over

A lot of us seem to have a tendency to hang on to, obsess about, or idealise men (or women) who really just aren’t “all that”. A good way to ease yourself out of this mindset it to focus on his or her flaws.

So what are the things about this person that make them a terrible catch? Go to town!

Here are mine to get started, SO tempted to forward him this list!

  • Makes horrible, sweeping, racist comments about anyone not 100% Anglo Saxon
  • Homophobic
  • Makes harsh, judgemental comments about anyone not living up to his standards of looks or intelligence, but is himself an overweight scruff
  • Objectifies women, but will strongly deny this
  • Fickle to the point of causing emotional trauma - Can go from loving you in the morning to “never contact me again” that afternoon. Then back again within a few weeks
  • Conflict avoidant and highly dismissive of emotions or concerns that he finds uncomfortable
  • Manages the impressions and emotions of those close to him by withholding information and lying by omission. Becomes highly defensive if questioned.
  • Weak personal boundaries - if you do something he doesn’t agree with he takes it as a personal insult. Gets angry if you don’t handle your issues the way he thinks you should. Sees people close to him as an extension of himself
  • Puts the TV on in the bedroom without fail, to something he likes. Pawn Stars is not very romantic background noise
  • Rigid about his personal schedule. Always in a hurry to leave to do something banal like his ironing
  • Nearly always seems to be over tired or ill
  • Picky eater, comparable to an 8-year-old
  • Football shirts. Need I say more

Oh I could go on and on! And this list doesn’t even touch the specifics of the shit things he’s done in our barely-there relationship.

Hummm. See people as an extension of himself...

Have you read up on narcissism?

Helpmeplan · 20/05/2018 15:36

Why do you stick with him? I'm confused

BOO32 · 20/05/2018 16:33

Makes horrible, sweeping, racist comments about anyone not 100% Anglo Saxon

Surely that's enough to kill any relationship stone dead.

Walkacrossthesand · 20/05/2018 16:39

Seeing that in black and white must surely be a point of no return - he's history, surely?

AnyFucker · 20/05/2018 16:44

You are still with this guy ? I am a little perturbed by the flippant nature of your thread, tbh

Barbaro · 20/05/2018 17:08

I think she isn't with him anymore but could be wrong. If you are still with him, why?

Seriousquestion09 · 20/05/2018 17:31

That list is frightening
I would run!!!!Shock

Smallhorse · 20/05/2018 17:48

You still with this person ?

NotTheFordType · 20/05/2018 17:57

I'm pretty sure op has dumped him.

NoMoreCricketDartsOrFootball · 20/05/2018 18:18

He likes cricket, darts and football if that makes it any clearer.

I guess this was meant to be a vent, and seeing it in black and white sure helps to make things clearer.

I’ve been in an on-and-off relationship with this bloke, who has unfortunately been the focus of my obsessive nature for far too long. The relationship has recently ended for the nth time. Hopefully the last time.

You will be back with him by this time next week.

DianaT1969 · 20/05/2018 19:08

"Hopefully the last time." You know you have choices here? This isn't something that's just happening to you, like unexplained an eczema rash.
You listed his faults. What would your girlfriends list about you?
^Sets the bar low
Has terrible taste in men^
Is wasting her life

It's worth thinking about to come to your senses.

homophobic

If this is true those alone would be a dealbreaker for me. I think you need to think about your own values more closely, if those comments only bother you after you have fallen out of love with your partner.

cistersofterfy · 20/05/2018 20:52

Seriously, the top three are so bad I couldn't get any further. LTB.

NoMoreCricketDartsOrFootball · 20/05/2018 22:07

Noughtsandcrosses interestingly, that was a dealbreaker for me until I met this bloke. And believe me, it’s always bothered me... but it’s interesting how much you can sweep under the carpet when you’re in the throes of an unhealthy obsession.

NoMoreCricketDartsOrFootball · 20/05/2018 22:11

You’re all completely right. Oh except AF, if I actually make some good decisions for once Sad

AnyFucker · 20/05/2018 22:16

Let's see then, yeah ?

TheBogWitchIsBack · 20/05/2018 22:19

Sounds abusive. Knock it on the head while you still have the sense to see what's happening.

SprayingMonsters · 20/05/2018 22:22
