Work colleague attitude

went out for dinner with a few colleagues from work. There are groups at the dinner table . To my right friends. To my left friends but 1 who didn't talk to me ....ok that's fair enough. Not everyone bonds with everyone. I get it. But at the end I decided to order a dessert to which this one lady made a face and said "uuuuhgg that's disgusting. Honestly this is what the peasents used to eat, like seriously it's disgusting who eats that !" So embarrassed I went ahead and ordered it anyway....thinking who the hell are you to say that. I am so upset right now as this one person had ruined my evening...nasty. am I overacting? Reacting? Taking things too seriously ....but honestly k had felt tension right from the word go.

What was the pudding?!

She was rude and unpleasant, and it's quite astonishing she felt it ok to say that to your face.

I wouldn't let it ruin your evening though, she's being absurd and no one (normal) would think badly of you, only her.

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 22:21

Rude and crass behaviour. Possibly not aimed at hurting you - it sounds like something an idiot would say purely for attention - but very unpleasant. However, the only person who should feel embarrassed is her.

wowbutter · 12/05/2018 22:22

I would have eaten it, with eye contact at her the whole time.

BettyBaggins · 12/05/2018 22:23

Yes, what was the pudding? Was it yummy? Grin

Onlyme100 · 12/05/2018 22:24

It was actually some strange Asian dessert.... Don't know anything much about it....but yes it was nice.

Grin Yes!

Nasty cow. I would have exaggerated eating it too while staring at her.

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/05/2018 22:31

Is she from an Asian background? Being charitable towards her, maybe she was trying to warn you about it potentially not being very nice. Perhaps!

phlewf · 12/05/2018 22:37

Ah, you’ve been out with my mother. Often I am told no when I order peasnet food. Doesn’t apply to French and Italian obviously, their peasant food is acceptable.
I eat my chilli and put all the available condiments on too. I try to make a point about rather a peasent than a dictator but more about it relationship.

Onlyme100 · 12/05/2018 22:48

Hi...not from an Asian background. I just felt so belittled and attacked.... Funny how a comment can just ruin your evening... Personally I would never judge what anyone eats... Even if I think it I wouldn't say it's yuck or compare it to peasants.... That's because thankfully I'm not a snob.

She's bang out of order RUDE... Flowers

Occasionally, and sparingly, it is perfectly appropriate to tell someone to Fuck Off. This was one of those times.

UndomesticHousewife · 13/05/2018 11:11

Wtf is a peasant dessert? Confused don't let yourself be bothered by that person!

PositivelyPERF · 13/05/2018 11:15

I just want to know what the Asian dessert is called?

PositivelyPERF · 13/05/2018 11:15

On the plus side, she really made herself look a right dick in front of the others. 😁
