Does she love me back?

Recently I told a very very good friend that I was in love with her. It was not done face to face I put it in a card with a message inside. My friend is not single but in a dead end relationship and we have been friends for years and years. We spend so much time together near enough every weekend and we are like a family as she has 2 children. Since giving the card I received a text saying she loved me too and I was like family. When I replied she put kisses at the front of the message and said see you soon. Today I drove past her and she had a big smile on her face. I can't work out if she feels the same in a romantic way. In person there is chemistry, lots of long eye contact, closeness etc. She isn't being awkward or anything which is good but I can't be sure if she feels it the same way I do!

If you are so close to this woman why are beating about the bush with silly cards like a love sick teenager.
Tell her how you feel and ask her if she feels the same. Then you will know exactly where you stand.

I don't really understand. She has two children, so do you and your DC play together?..

Also, how do you know she's in a dead end relationship? Has she told you this?

Zipzip18 · 17/04/2018 20:45

@Poshindevon She is sentimental and likes gestures like that - plus it's hard to say it face to face because I was scared of the response incase it went badly or I ruined things.

@Tobleronemonster

Yeah and I've been there since the day they were born. I've a brilliant relationship with them and I see them every weekend for days out and nights in. She has told me that things aren't going well and basically the romance is dead - plus he doesn't meet her needs where as I do and I provide the emotional support and physical as he is elusive.

What are you hoping for? An affair?

Mary1935 · 17/04/2018 20:52

Hi Zipzip - she said your like family - it doesn't sound romantic to me.
I can see why it's unclear for you.

CircleofWillis · 17/04/2018 20:56

When you say physical support do you mean sexual? Has she ever indicated that she finds you sexually attractive?

If not it is unlikely that she means any more than she loves you like a member of her family. The text certainly didn’t sound like a declaration of love.

ShweShwe · 17/04/2018 20:56

What 'needs' of hers do you meet then?

loveyoutothemoon · 17/04/2018 21:21

How do we know? Ask her!

ShatnersWig · 18/04/2018 08:17

I was like family

That is your answer. She does not see you in a romantic or sexual sense. Perhaps like a brother.
