Question about how Bumble works

So I've just signed up....it says there are some matches but I have to sign up to bumble boost to see.....I had thought the app was a free one?
Also does it work in that men can't message unless you swipe right on them?
Confused on how Bumble works....

Yes you need to subscribe to see who has liked you. Which is annoying. But if you just use the swipe screen and swipe right on someone who has also swiped right on you, you'll see them then (I think, been a while since I used it).

The man can't message you at all, until you've messaged them first. You can't message them until you've both matched.

Bumble works... badly?

You must be matched to talk.
You swipe and if you match you have 24 hours to message him.
You compose and carefully thought out witty message based on his profile which reads “love my friends, travelling and good food and drinks” Hmm
Then you wait 24 hours for him to message you back... which he doesn’t and the match expires.

In my former dating life I didn’t get a date in 6 months on bumble but I had about 3-4 a week from tinder

I found Bumble a waste of time... I felt like it was marketed towards giving women empowerment but actually meant the woman has to make all the effort! Plus you only get a 24 hour window to message people then they disappear, which isn't really compatible with someone that has a life outside of dating.
