Which online dating sites are best?

My lovely friend who is a very young vibrant 45 who has been single for as long as I've known her has decided it's time to get online again (did it a couple of years ago and then stopped). I've said I'll help her with her profile etc, but can anyone suggest half decent sites that she should consider as I would not have a clue where to start. Are the pay ones best?

This question gets asked about every three weeks on the Relationships board so may well be worth doing a search. In my experience, they are all as shit as each other and the notion that the paid sites are better is bullshit as they have fake profiles, you suddenly get more matches or notifications just as your subscription is due to run out.

you will get the most informed and patient advice on the dating thread on this board. The general opinion seems to be that there isn't that much difference, the most important thing is how you approach it.
