I have no idea how Pinterest works, but my bf (together 2 years) uses it, supposedly as it's for 'creative' people to share ideas and interests.
I saw last night he had 11 notifications, and opened the app.
His feed came up and it was absolutely full of photos of women with their arses and boobs out, a very particular kind of body shape. The usual stuff - pouty pornified very young women.
He swears these photos come up of their own accord and are nothing to do with his search criteria.
I'm pretty pissed off - is he right, or does the Pinterest feed target you with what you usually search for?

I just checked my Pinterest there. Front page is full of pregnancy motivational mantras, baby clothes, painted furniture and "100 interesting facts" . The only thing remotely resembling bums and boobs are feeding bras....

Mine is all depressingly gorgeous interiors and implausibly gorgeous women (fully dressed) with beautiful haircuts.

Because I’m redecorating my house and fancy a new hairstyle.

Pinterest 100% targets based on interests. That’s it’s whole thing.

This is a screen shot of the newsfeed when I open it. This is all related to things I search.

Your front page is usually full of stuff that you have viewed before.

Just looked at mine. It's full of baby things. Diy baby things. Etc

Husband's is full if motorbikes and special kind of ones.

I'm guessing that what your OH has been looking at?

They most definitely are appearing after he has searched similar! I am in PETA and always get both horrific +cute pet feeds.

Midnightpony · 23/02/2018 09:46

I should add - that's what I've searched for in the past. New stuff only gets added in when I search for it specifically and it'll come up subsequently in my feed.

I had an awkward moment one day when I had been idly browsing identical twins and triplets - I think they're so interesting - and then went to show a colleague an art idea for school I had also seen. My page opened up to loads of pretty, identical blonde ladies. Thankfully with their clothes on Blush

i use pinterest for crochet, Christmas ideas, home decorating ideas and crafty stuff, and thats what comes up in my feed

Branleuse · 23/02/2018 09:50

hes probably following that page. It will usually just show you the pages you follow, pluss suggestions relevent to the type of images you look it.

Tbh, ive never seen anything particularly hardcore on there, but a fair bit of erotica if you search for it

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (known as 'pinning' on Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others' boards (i.e. a collection of 'pins,' usually with a common theme) and browsing what other users have pinned. Using a visual orientation, the social network is very much focused on the concept of a person's lifestyle, allowing you to share your tastes and interests with others and discovering those of likeminded people. The social network's goal is to "connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting." Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the Pinterest bookmarklet.

He is lying through his teeth; its more denial and minimising of his own behaviour from him. It goes without saying that these images did not pop up of their own accord; these were actively searched for.

SecretLocker · 23/02/2018 09:55

Thanks for the replies - I kind of sussed that you get fed more of what you search for.
I am finding it worse that googling those kind of pictures on the web.
He's concealing and containing his viewing within a supposedly innocent app - that makes me more angry.
