If a non-resident parent gives up work to be a SAHM/D to step children after re-marrying, therefore reducing their income to nil, are they required to pay child maintenance to the resident parent based on their spouse's income? Or will this mean they legitimately pay nothing?

As it stands non-resident parent seems to resent paying child maintenance, so it seems like an "easy" way out of this obligation.

I'm not too sure on this however I don't think the spouse would legally have to pay maintenance. But I've not been in this situation so hopefully someone else will know for sure.

It's only based on the parent's income so no maintenance payable in that scenario, sorry op

Thanks. That's what I feared. Hard work for the resident parent to make ends meet in future then Sad
