It's so nobody can see when he was last online.

forumdonkey · 08/02/2018 22:04

He can read the message without the sender seeing that it's been read and showing him as being online

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/02/2018 22:05

Typed in on google and this article appeared OP so maybe trying to hide when he is Appearing online / read messages

Although he could change his settings so it doesn't turn blue, read or turn off last seen

Lunettesloupes · 08/02/2018 22:07

It doesn’t matter how he sets his WhatsApp - he can still cheat on you.

Imstickingwiththisone · 08/02/2018 22:07

You can't see other people's ticks or last seen if your own is switched off though

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/02/2018 22:08

@forumdonkey exactly , why not just remove your timestamp but maybe he thinks that looks too suspicious . Sounds hardwork though , flicking back and forth to airplane mode

forumdonkey · 08/02/2018 22:14

@FuckItPassMeTheWine that's exactly what I thought, it's a lot of hard work. I don't have a time stamp but that's got more to do with using my personal phone at work Grin My sister has hers set so you can't see the read blue ticks, again that came about due to a work colleague contacting her with work problems while we were on holiday. Except you'd notice OP if his settings suddenly changed OP????

springchickenn · 08/02/2018 22:25

Yes, its so he doesn't appear online. I do it if I want to reply to a particular friend who very often phones me if we are chatting in real time (at inappropriate times for far too lengthy phonecalls) .

TokenGinger · 08/02/2018 22:27

My time stamp is switched off but I still do this.

I have an annoying friend who literally just tracks when I’m online. If she sends me a message, it’s like she waits and waits and waits to see me online and if I don’t reply, she’ll send more messages.

I have a group chat with my immediate team at work, so if a message comes up on that when at work, I will want to read it in case it’s an action etc., so I flip it in the airplane mode so I can read my work chat, without my friends seeing I am online, to therefore save being pestered when at work, or even when at home in the evening and I don’t want to engage in conversation when chilling.

I also do it when I’m arguing with DP. I itch to see what he’s said, but don’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing that I’ve opened it immediately because he ignores me for hours! The bugger 😝

I confronted him and he lied and said he had never done that - despite me seeing him doing it ! He said thanks for the tip and is now retrieving everything offline .Any tips for getting round this will be appreciated . No I don’t want to stalk him I just want to prove that he is still lying to me Instead if making me out as some crazy woman ( although the situation is making me crazy )
.I know once just walk away but I have to know the truth so I can just draw a line under it ( he can be outed ) and I can move on with my life . Has anyone used on private detective in the London area ?
